Case Study
MassBio
Turning State of Possible, MassBio’s flagship annual conference, into an immersive brand experience — story, design, print, and live production under one creative vision.
The Challenge
State of Possible brings together leaders, innovators, researchers, and decision-makers from across the life sciences ecosystem to explore the future of biotechnology and celebrate the breakthroughs emerging from Massachusetts.
MassBio needed an experience that reflected the significance of the event and the industry it serves. The challenge was to create a seamless visual and narrative experience that would:
The Solution
Midnight Brunch served as MassBio’s integrated creative and production partner, helping develop both the story and the experience behind State of Possible.
Rather than treating creative, design, and production as separate disciplines, we brought them together under a single vision.
What We Delivered
Strategic storytelling
The cornerstone of the event was an original opening film designed to celebrate the people, discoveries, and organizations pushing biotechnology forward.
Working closely with MassBio’s marketing and innovation teams, we developed the creative concept, narrative structure, scripting, visual direction, and editorial approach for a cinematic opening designed to energize attendees and establish the tone for the conference. Client feedback described the concept as “really exciting” and the final script as “utterly fantastic.”
The film challenged viewers to consider a simple but powerful question: What have you done for the world?
By connecting scientific breakthroughs, innovation, and community impact, the piece transformed a traditional conference opener into an emotional and aspirational brand moment.
Art direction & event design
To create a cohesive attendee experience, the creative extended far beyond the opening film. Midnight Brunch developed and supported:
- Event art direction
- On-screen graphics
- Motion graphics packages
- Presentation visuals
- Print collateral
- Supporting event creative assets
Every visual component was designed to feel connected, ensuring attendees experienced a consistent brand story whether they were watching keynote content, engaging with event materials, or moving throughout the conference.
The goal was not simply to make the event look polished. It was to make the experience feel unified.
Live event production
State of Possible required extensive live production support across multiple spaces and programming tracks.
Midnight Brunch deployed dedicated production teams to capture keynote sessions, breakout presentations, attendee experiences, and event storytelling throughout the conference. Production crews operated across multiple rooms while editors simultaneously gathered content for highlight reels and event recaps. The production effort included:
- Multi-camera coverage
- Breakout session recording
- Event b-roll capture
- Highlight content creation
- Content playback support
- On-site production management
This approach allowed MassBio to maximize the value of the event while creating a library of content that extended beyond the live experience.
Technical execution
Behind the scenes, Midnight Brunch coordinated with venue and audiovisual partners to ensure the creative vision translated seamlessly to the live environment. Services included:
- Live switching
- IMAG support
- Session recording
- Multi-camera production
- Content management and playback
A later project reference describing the engagement cites Midnight Brunch’s responsibility for both live-cut production and dedicated IMAG support, demonstrating the scope of technical execution required to bring the experience to life.
“LOVE this! What a great script and really exciting!”
The Results
The final experience brought together storytelling, design, graphics, print, and live production into a single event ecosystem.
The opening film became a centerpiece of the conference experience and later earned industry recognition through award-winning creative work.

The project also demonstrated the value of treating events as integrated brand experiences rather than isolated productions.
MassBio reported that approximately 40% of attendees were first-time participants, highlighting the event’s ability to attract new audiences while maintaining its position as one of the life sciences industry’s premier gatherings.

Building Experiences That Extend Beyond the Event
The most successful conferences aren’t defined by what happens on stage. They’re defined by the story audiences experience before, during, and after the event.
By combining creative development, visual design, live production, and content creation, Midnight Brunch helped transform State of Possible into an immersive brand experience that reflected the innovation, ambition, and impact of Massachusetts’ life sciences community.
