Case Study
MedicalWey
How Midnight Brunch built the brand, story, and content the Weymouth & South Shore Chamber of Commerce needed to launch MedicalWey — and set up its capital campaign to succeed.
The Challenge
Along Route 18 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the South Shore had quietly assembled one of the most compelling healthcare corridors in the Northeast — South Shore Hospital anchoring a dense cluster of specialized practices, diagnostic centers, research initiatives, and healthcare-adjacent businesses. The infrastructure was there. The talent was there. Patients drove past it on their way into Boston without knowing they could stay.
The Weymouth and South Shore Chamber of Commerce needed to turn that unrecognized asset into a brand that could speak credibly to three audiences at once — the healthcare professionals being recruited to the area, the community that already calls it home, and the investors who'd eventually fund its growth — without sounding like a hospital system. The brief was blunt about the bar to clear: would someone wear this on a hat?
Our Approach
Midnight Brunch came on as the full-service creative partner behind MedicalWey — strategy, naming, visual identity, messaging, content production, and the public launch event, built as one connected system rather than separate workstreams. A positioning platform needed to flex from a billboard headline to a Mayor's keynote to a major-donor deck without ever losing the plot.
The work moved through stakeholder workshops and interviews to pressure-test the strategy, a brand blueprint aligning the Chamber and South Shore Health on a shared direction, creative development across naming and messaging, and finally content production and a public debut built to give Phase 2's fundraising campaign a running start.
What We Delivered
Brand strategy & positioning
Stakeholder workshops and interviews with Chamber leadership, South Shore Health, and civic partners shaped a positioning platform built on a single insight: MedicalWey wasn't inventing something new — it was naming something that already existed. That became the strategic spine for four brand pillars carried through every asset that followed.
Naming, logo & visual identity
We wrote the creative brief and directed identity development, deliberately steering clear of every healthcare-branding cliché — sterile blues, generic crosses, hospital-system polish. The direction called for something that could work embroidered on a hat as well as it worked on Route 18 signage: confident and civic, closer to a college athletics program than a clinic. Concepts explored a coastal-influenced but non-literal palette, a modern type system built on Raleway and Lora, and “Wey” as a subtle signature device across the wordmark.
Messaging & brand voice
We built the full messaging architecture — the brand line “A Better Wey of Care. A Better Wey of Life.,” a positioning statement, tiered short-, medium-, and long-form brand copy, and a voice guide specific enough to name which words carried the brand (“advanced,” “neighbor, not a number”) and which undercut it (“world-class,” “ecosystem,” anything aspirational about a place that already existed).
Founding story & brand narrative
We wrote MedicalWey's founding story — the long-form narrative establishing the place, the vision, and the people behind it — that became source material for the vision video script, donor presentations, and press materials alike.
Film & photography production
We scoped and directed a full production package anchored by a cinematic vision video — “the emotional engine” of the launch, in our own brief — alongside a companion sizzle reel weaving together a patient, a clinician, and a local business owner into one community story.
Public launch: the Mayor's Breakfast
Ahead of the breakfast, we also launched a standalone landing page at medicalwey.com — giving the community, press, and prospective donors somewhere to land as the teaser campaign built toward the announcement.
We wrote the full script package for MedicalWey's public debut — a two-version “Where Are They Doing” teaser script for Chamber President & CEO Tim Cahill to build anticipation ahead of the event, and the Mayor's announcement remarks unveiling MedicalWey to the room. We also produced the leave-behind brief distributed at the event, translating the full brand platform into one tightly written page.
Fundraising strategy & collateral
Beyond brand and content, we helped structure the campaign's fundraising approach — mapping a four-tier donor landscape, from anchor healthcare institutions and real estate partners through community and legacy donors to institutional grant funding — and built the fundraising deck used to make the case to each tier.
“I want to thank the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, Eric Dykeman and the entire team — in partnership with our creative agency, Midnight Brunch — for the vision and leadership that made this happen.”
Set Up to Raise, Not Yet Raising
MedicalWey launched publicly at the Chamber's Mayor's Breakfast to a room of the region's healthcare, business, and civic leaders — introduced by Tim Cahill and the Mayor, and framed by Eric Dykeman of the South Shore Chamber as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for Weymouth. That launch closed out Phase 1. No dollars changed hands as part of this engagement — the job was to build everything the capital campaign now depends on: a brand platform credible enough to stand in front of institutional donors, a messaging system tested across patients, healthcare professionals, and investors alike, a founding story and vision-video treatment ready to move into production, and a four-tier donor strategy with the sequencing and collateral to run it.
What began as an unnamed cluster of healthcare assets along Route 18 now has a name, a unified identity, and a fundraising game plan — anchor institutions and Route 18 property owners first, then the Chamber network, physician groups, community and legacy donors, and grant funding. Phase 2 is where MedicalWey goes and raises the money. Phase 1 built the case that makes people want to write the check.
